Exploring the wilderness of the Danube Delta is the experience of a lifetime. One of Europe's best kept secrets, the Delta is a world class conservation area and a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. It is estimated that more than 3000 pairs of pelicans breed annually in the Danube Delta. Along with the cormorants, swans and ducks, they make up the largest contingent of the 176 species that breed in the area. Visiting a cormorant or pelican breeding colony is an awesome experience. Here, nature reigns supreme - cormorants, spoon-bills, egrets and herons share the colony ensuring that every vantage branch on the trees hosts a nest. Bustling with life, the strictly protected colonies give the visitor a magical insight into the amazing world of nature. In the reed beds below, ducks and swans rear their young in nests camouflaged in the thick foliage. An abundant food supply is provided in the surrounding waters of the Delta, where birds consume over 8,000 tonnes of fish every year.

The lakes, channels and estuaries of the vast Danube Delta in Romania are a paradise for anglers. The 5,400 square kilometer nature reserve is amongst the most tranquil and picturesque fishing destinations in Europe and abundant with game fish. Fishing for pike, carp, catfish, zander, roach, bream and perch is open for most of the year except for the short spawning period in April and May.
