Tanis is considered to be probably the most important archaeological site in Egypt's northern Delta, probably because it is one of the largest and certainly the most impressive of the sites. From Tanis travel to Tal Basta, home to the cult of Bastet (the cat goddess) where an open air museum is sure to be of interest. There is also a Biblical connection. Here, Jesus caused a water spring to well up from the ground, and His presence caused the idols to crumble, as foretold by the prophets of old.
