It is typically tranquil and highly green town with vast gardens, orchards and date-palm plantations, in addition to a multitude of beautiful historical houses, inns and mosques adorned with exquisite decorative inscriptions and woodworks. Tanis is considered to be probably the most important archaeological site in Egypt's northern Delta, probably because it is one of the largest and certainly the most impressive of the sites. From Tanis travel to Tal Basta, home to the cult of Bastet (the cat goddess) where an open air museum is sure to be of interest. There is also a Biblical connection. Here, Jesus caused a water spring to well up from the ground, and His presence caused the idols to crumble, as foretold by the prophets of old. "Behold the Lord rides on a swift cloud, and will come into Egypt and the idols of Egypt will totter at His Presence and the heart of Egypt will melt in the midst of it"

We will look across the broad landscape of Wadi Ghazala and the oasis of Ein Kudra, traditionally hazerot for the Children of Israel. We continue our journey to the coast and have lunch at Habiba, a wonderful open air restaurant right on the shore of the Gulf. On a clear day we can see Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Israel.
