LOS TRES OJOS

Los Tres OjosLos Tres Ojos translates to “The Three Eyes.” This park boasts some of the geological splendor of Santo Domingo. It is located on the east bank of the Ozama River and is made up of a mosaic of natural caves lined with circular fresh water lagoons. These lagoons are fed by an underground river named Brujuela. Interestingly, the different lagoons each have unique characteristics. The first of these lakes is a sulphuric lake. It was discovered in 1916 and though the sulphuric waters of this lake measure only 20 feet deep, it has been said that the actual lake is bottomless. It has also been rumored that it is contained in a volcanic crater. Some of these lagoons are warm, while others are a cool 55 degrees Fahrenheit.

If you do take a trip to Los Tres Ojos National park, you will be enjoying the very same location where pre-Columbian Taino Indians once performed their religious ceremonies.
